Before Using For The First Time:

It is important, before using your mortar and pestle set for the first time, that you clean and season both pieces. This will clean out any stone dust left in the items from when it was manufactured.

1. Wash the items in clean water without soap or detergent.Let the mortar and pestle air dry.

2. Grind a small handful of white rice. Discard the rice and then repeat this step until the rice grinds white. It can take multiple tries to get the rice to grind white.

3. Next, add 4 cloves of garlic, then mash it together with the rice.

4. Add 1 teaspoon cumin, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon pepper to the garlic. Grind it all together and then discard.

5. Wash the mortar and pestle again in clean water with no soap and let them both air dry.
